Tokyo, Japan – May 28, 2014 – SL Japan Corporation, a subsidiary of SL Corporation, a leading provider of real-time data monitoring and visualization solutions, announced today that SL-GMS Developer and Custom Editor for Microsoft .NET have been selected by Meidensha Corporation  (MEIDEN) for developing its new SCADA System for Electronic Power Dispatch of Conventional Railway Lines. This system, with the user interface and Custom Editor developed using SL-GMS (SL Graphical Modeling System), has received the 2012 Good Design Award (G Mark).

MEIDEN is a global and established leader in environment engineering and solutions based on more than 115 years of delivering proven technologies. They provide a wide range of innovative products and engineering as well as deployment, maintenance and management solutions that support public infrastructure such as water supply, electric power, trains and roads. MEIDEN also uses SL-GMS with its DCS (Distributed Control System) products: MEISVY-OPS5000 and MEISVY VS for water treatment and Meiden Smart BEMS (Building Energy Management System).

SCADA System for Railways, developed by MEIDEN using SL-GMS, monitors electric systems 24 x 7 and supports railway transportation with a stable supply of power. The “2012 Good Design Award” committee highly evaluated the quality enhancements in both the interface and hardware equipment designs: More visually advanced and easier to use graphic interface by applying the Human Centered Design (HCD) [*] concept to the interface and well-organized screen designs of the monitor and control operation station.

While the user interface retains the best of the existing user interface elements, its visual appeal and operability are enhanced, and the “ease of use” has been implemented by interface design, hardware equipment design and spatial design from the user’s standpoint.

SL-GMS has been used in numerous DCS/SCADA solutions worldwide, as well as other monitoring and control systems including energy and facilities management. The sophisticated yet easy-to-use, dynamic GUI or HMI required by these advanced control and monitoring systems can be easily and interactively edited using SL-GMSDraw. This tool enables rapid prototyping by allowing users to immediately preview the behaviors of their dynamic GUI in development using simulated data.

SL-GMS Developer for .NET is specifically designed for the development of real-time applications using Microsoft Visual Studio in the .NET Framework to deliver and deploy highly interactive content-rich GUI/HMI with millisecond real-time performance. The product also offers the SL-GMS Custom Editor for .NET option for building an application-specific custom editor for its end users in a couple of man-months, which could otherwise take several man-years.

[*] Human Centered Design (HCD) is a design concept to improve usability by designing and building a customer-driven system or a product based on a user’s perspective.
