The Challenge in Managing and Monitoring Data Grids
Many enterprises are adopting grid computing as the delivery platform for new applications, and as a cost-effective means for consolidating siloed infrastructures. They do so with the understanding that application performance and responsiveness depend heavily on the scalability of the grid environment. However, they may not have the means to validate that their grid infrastructure is scaling correctly, nor the the ability to troubleshoot and fix a problem quickly before it impacts overall grid performance.
Oracle Coherence, a component of Oracle® Fusion Middleware, enables organizations to scale their grid-based applications by helping to eliminate barriers to the growth of their applications. It optimizes how applications access data by moving and managing data in-memory across the grid, closer to the applications that need it the most.
While there are enormous benefits to an optimized grid infrastructure, two challenges remain. The first is understanding exactly what’s happening at any given moment with so many moving parts to be sure that the grid is scaling as expected. With numerous applications and nodes generating thousands of real-time data streams, it becomes extremely difficult to gain a horizontal view across the entire grid environment that is capable of providing early warning of issues that might prevent the grid from performing.
The second challenge is quickly troubleshooting and fixing potential threats to grid scalability.
